Not sure if this is an appropriate topic for this section so please feel free to move. I read somewhere that certain clays could be used in a composite water filter using sand, gravel, and other media to filter out radioactive fallout. As there is mounting concern about Fukushima type scenarios and the global knock on effect on world drinking water and crops I have been thinking about possible remedial action. Difficult to know how to deal with contaminated soil but has anyone experimented with clay for eliminating radioactive isotopes in DIY water purification units? I am already relieved to learn from reading articles on this site that clay can chelate radioactive isotopes in the body. I think it would be very valuable to know the optimal clay for this function as there are so many.

Hi David:

Using clay as a filtration for radiation is fine as long as you don't reuse the clay.

However, it is a common practice in Europe to use volcanic-origin minerals as a soil additive ***to prevent*** the uptake of radiation by plants.

As far as for human use, three things really should be done:

1. Clay baths using a good bath clay

2. A good edible clay to pull the radiation from the digestive tract and prevent re-uptake

3. Using a very high quality micronized zeolite to pull radiation directly from the organs and bloodstream.

4. A high quality iodine supplement
